Net Neutrality Bill Proposal

So congressional Democrats have introduced a Net Neutrality bill that would require the FCC to use “whatever authority it sees fit” to stop paid prioritization agreements between broadband and content providers.

What the bill doesn’t say is that this can all be very cleanly accomplished by simply categorizing broadband providers as Common Carriers (briefly explained here). But Tom Wheeler spent way too many years as a cable industry lobbyist to be swayed by hippy-dippy arguments for why open access to information is as essential to 21st century life (and markets!) as open access to water, electricity, telephone, and other utilities were to the 20th century.
